about.
about.

Lucy Rime was born 3 weeks early in New York City on August 1st, 2002. From the moment she could walk, or even crawl, she was constantly playing and exploring. After years of climbing on jungle gyms and sprawling around the playground, Lucy’s mom knew she needed to give her a place to release energy. And so, voila, Lucy was put in a dance studio. When she was 3 years old her dance journey began, and from her first performance she was already on top of the steps and bothering the people around her when they did the steps incorrectly.

After moving to New City, New York in 2007, she started experimenting with every activity under the sun. Throughout elementary school, there was nothing Lucy didn’t try. From soccer, to art, to figure skating, to theater, there were too many options to choose from. Along with that, too, were recreational dance classes, including ballet, jazz and hip hop. And yet, by the end of elementary school, Lucy found her focus in 3 things. Gymnastics, dance, and theater.

For the first two years of middle school, Lucy’s main focus was competitive gymnastics and theater. In 6th and 7th grade, Lucy trained as a competitive gymnast 4 days a week, 3 hours a day, along with doing plays through a local children's theater called Words and Music and Elmwood Playhouse. She loved being a part of a team and going to competitions, and there was nothing she loved more than being a part of a performance. In 8th grade however, Lucy began to realize she wanted to go back to Ballet again, after quitting in elementary school to pursue gymnastics. So the summer she turned 13, she started taking classes twice a week once again, and from there she was officially hooked. By the end of middle school her ballet teacher left her with an option to continue to take more dance classes, including pointe in the fall. So, Lucy decided to let go of gymnastics, which she was now training in at the 7th level, to choose ballet as her top interest.

High school was all about ballet. 4 days a week at 2 and a half hours at least per day, plus a usual Saturday rehearsal was no easy feat. There were multiple performance opportunities over the years, from performing in local festivals, summer galas at the end of the year, shows in high schools, working with a local opera company, that not only fostered an opportunity for growth but for Lucy to continue to fall in love with the stage. Because of this, Lucy also continued to do some theater throughout High School, in the form of school plays in lead dance roles and children's performances where she brought her musical and acting side to life. She even interned for a children's theater company over the summer, to try and gain some more experience behind the scenes.

When it was time for college, Lucy knew she didn’t want to give up the role of dance in her life. When she found out about the UMass Dance Program, she was very excited to audition and even more thrilled upon acceptance. Starting in the Fall of 2020, she soon began a journey that would be unforgettable. Since being at UMass in 2020, Lucy has taken classes in Ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, improvisation, choreography, and pointe and variations. Along with those technique classes, she has also been privileged to take classes specializing in Scientific Foundations of Dance, Dance History, and Dance Education. And with each given semester, she has gone to rehearsals for various performances, ranging from senior thesis pieces, personal choreography projects, junior choreography projects, and faculty pieces.

Overall, Lucy loves to wiggle whenever possible. She loves to bring her hard work, determination, and ability to work with others into the studio with her, to create and inspire with those around her. She wishes to continue to dance in any way she can, whenever she can, and considers it a top priority.
