You're my best friend:

For quite a long time now,

I’ve felt something strong.

I look at your eyes and my heart shines.

You smile and I smile, always without fail.

And I know, deep down, that I love you

We hang out and I’m happy.

It feels good to see you laugh.

And when you leave, I remember

Things you’ve said, the words you’ve spoke.

And I know, deep down, that I love you

More times than I can count, I’ve wanted to tell you.

Maybe this time, I think. I’ll grab your hand.

You’ll look at me, and I’ll look at you, and something will change.

Because I know, deep down, that I love you

But I am so afraid, of losing a best friend.

Over feelings that I, sadly, can’t control.

There have been others, but they aren’t the same.

Because I know, deep down that I love you

Sometimes at night, right before I fall asleep,

I imagine a life where you felt the same.

You’re light as air, as shy as a sea breeze,

and too good to really be true.

And I wish I could tell you I love you.

But the days keep going by.

And sometimes, I won’t lie.

I think about opening my mouth.

But you’re leaving soon, and so am I,

And I wish I could tell you I love you.
